A Small Way to Say “Take Care, Mom” — Why Bird’s Nest Means More on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day has an interesting way of making us pause.
In the middle of everything—work, errands, daily routines—you suddenly think about her. Not just what she’s done, but how quietly she’s always been there for you. The one who takes care of you from the moment you were born, to your growing years and now, looking back, your mother is the light of your life.
And then comes the question: what do I give her this year?
Flowers are nice. Dinner is nice. But sometimes, you want to give something that feels a little more nurturing, to show appreciation for all the sacrifices she’s made to raise you.
For many of us, bird’s nest is a delicacy we often had—being told by Mom to drink it when you were tired, sick, or to just celebrate a special occasion. You probably didn’t think much of it then, after all bird’s nests have always been familiar. But now that you’ve grown up, you realise that it wasn’t really about the bird’s nest.

It was about her.
The way she showed care without making a big deal out of it. No long explanations, no grand gestures. Just a simple bowl, placed in front of you, like it was the most normal thing in the world. That kind of care stays
with you.
Now, you start noticing she gets tired more easily. She reminds you to eat well, but skips meals herself. She’s still taking care of everyone but no one really tells her to slow down. And you realise… maybe it’s time to return that care—in small, thoughtful gestures.
That’s what makes bird’s nest feel so right for Mother’s Day.
Because it carries the same message she’s been giving you all your life:
“Take care of yourself.”
Bird’s nest isn’t something you pick up without thinking. When you choose it, you’re choosing something that represents health, prosperity and comfort. And that intention is what makes it special. To show your mom the appreciation she deserves and the kind that doesn’t need to be said out loud, but is felt anyway.

It used to take a lot of time and effort to prepare bird’s nest. She’d had to soak, clean and slow-cook it before serving. Now, it comes full cleaned in a beautiful package and ready to be cooked and enjoyed with minimal effort, easy to fit into her day. Whether she prefers it warm before bed or chilled in the afternoon, it’s something she can actually take a moment to enjoy.
And maybe that’s exactly what she needs.
You don’t have to say everything perfectly. You don’t need a long speech or the “perfect” gift. Sometimes, it’s just about choosing something that reflects how you feel. Something thoughtful. Something familiar. Something that carries care in the simplest way.
Because after all these years of her looking out for you, this might just be one of the nicest ways to say:
“Thank you, Mom—for everything.”
